What is Local Storage and Why We Use It?

At Weightlift Guru, we strive to provide tools and features that are both functional and privacy-conscious. A key part of this is our use of local storage. Below, we explain what local storage is, how it works, and why we use it on our platform.

What is Local Storage?

Local storage is a type of web storage that allows websites to store data directly on a user’s device. Unlike cookies, which are sent back and forth between the browser and server, data in local storage is stored locally in the user’s browser.

This means:

  • The data remains on your device and is not shared with us or anyone else.

  • It can persist even after you close the browser or turn off your computer, as long as you don’t clear your browser’s cache or storage.

Local storage is safe and entirely under your control. You can manage or delete the data at any time through your browser settings.

Why Does Weightlift Guru Use Local Storage?

We use local storage to enhance your experience on Weightlift Guru without needing to collect any personal details. Specifically, local storage allows us to:

  • Save your inputs and progress on our fitness calculators (like BMI history, macronutrient data, or goal-setting targets).

  • Let you track your journey over time without needing to create an account or share sensitive information.

  • Ensure your data stays private, as everything is stored on your device only.

By using local storage, we eliminate the need for sign-ups, log-ins, or data transfers to external servers, giving you a secure, hassle-free experience.

What Data is Stored in Local Storage?

We only store information relevant to your fitness journey, such as:

  • Your calculated BMI, macronutrient goals, or caloric intake.

  • Any logged entries for tracking progress over time (e.g., weight changes or BMI history).

  • Personalization settings, like your preferred measurement units (metric or imperial) or dark/light mode preference.

Important Note:
We do not store or process any personally identifiable information (e.g., name, email, or address). All data is anonymized and tied to your browser.

How Can You Manage Local Storage?

If you want to clear or review what’s stored, you can do so through your browser settings. Below are general steps for common browsers:

  • Google Chrome: Go to Settings → Privacy and Security → Cookies and other site data → See all site data and permissions.

  • Safari: Go to Preferences → Privacy → Manage Website Data.

  • Firefox: Go to Options → Privacy & Security → Cookies and Site Data → Manage Data.

  • Edge: Go to Settings → Cookies and site permissions → Manage and delete cookies and site data.

You can delete specific data for Weightlift Guru or clear all stored data. Keep in mind that clearing local storage will reset your progress on our calculators.

Our Commitment to Your Privacy

At Weightlift Guru, your privacy is our priority. By using local storage, we ensure that your fitness data is stored safely on your device, giving you full control without the need for sign-ups or account creation. This approach allows us to focus on delivering a seamless, user-friendly experience while keeping your information private and secure.

If you have any questions or concerns about how local storage works or how we use it, feel free to reach out to us at info@weightliftguru.com.
