What is Local Storage and Why We Use It
1
Introduction: Our Approach to Privacy and Functionality
At Weightlift Guru (WG), we prioritize giving you powerful tools while respecting your privacy.
A key part of this commitment is our use of local storage.
Below, we explain what local storage is, how it works, and why it matters for your experience on WG.
2
What is Local Storage?
Local storage is a form of web storage that saves data directly on your device—inside your web browser—without sending it to external servers.
Here’s what that means:
-
Data stays on your device — not sent to us or anyone else.
-
It persists even if you close your browser or shut down your computer (until you manually clear it).
-
You control it — you can view, manage, or delete stored data anytime through your browser settings.
Unlike cookies, local storage does not automatically communicate with servers, making it a far more privacy-conscious option.
3
Why Weightlift Guru Uses Local Storage
We use local storage to enhance your experience without needing to collect personal information or force you to create accounts.
Specifically, local storage allows us to:
-
Save your fitness calculator inputs (e.g., BMI history, macronutrient targets, goal tracking)
-
Remember your preferences (like metric vs imperial units, or dark/light mode)
-
Let you track your fitness journey privately without signing up or logging in
By keeping all your data stored locally on your device, we ensure your information stays completely private and under your full control.
4
What Data Is Stored in Local Storage?
We only store non-personal fitness-related data to improve your user experience, including:
-
Your BMI results, macronutrient breakdowns, and caloric targets
-
Progress logs (such as changes in weight or calculated metrics over time)
-
Personalization settings (measurement units, theme preferences)
Important:
We do not store any personally identifiable information (no names, emails, addresses, or accounts).
All stored data is fully anonymous and stays on your device only.
5
How You Can Manage Local Storage
Managing or clearing local storage is easy. Here’s how to do it on major browsers:
-
Google Chrome
Settings → Privacy and Security → Cookies and other site data → See all site data and permissions -
Safari
Preferences → Privacy → Manage Website Data -
Firefox
Options → Privacy & Security → Cookies and Site Data → Manage Data -
Microsoft Edge
Settings → Cookies and site permissions → Manage and delete cookies and site data
You can choose to delete Weightlift Guru-specific storage or clear all site data.
Reminder: Clearing your browser storage will reset your progress on WG calculators.
6
Our Commitment to Your Privacy
At Weightlift Guru, protecting your privacy isn’t an afterthought—it’s a core part of how we build our platform.
By using local storage:
-
We avoid storing your data on external servers.
-
We eliminate the need for mandatory sign-ups or logins.
-
We give you full control over what’s saved and when it’s cleared.
You get all the functionality—without sacrificing your privacy.
